Specimen Collection for Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities

MediCopia Specimen Collection for Nursing Homes provides a set of features that enhance the existing Specimen Collection application for use at nursing homes and assisted living facilities.  Primary features include the ability to use PPID methods other than wristbands (including verbal confirmation on a patient’s identity), and the ability to add patients and orders on the handheld client.  Confirmation of a patient’s identity can optionally be accomplished through the use of a biometric scanner.

The handheld client used to label specimens can be pre-loaded with patient demographics and orders at a central location, at a hospital lab, or these can be added on the handheld client at the nursing home.  The system can be used either with existing MediCopia in-patient Specimen Collection systems, or in stand-alone mode by independent labs.  Additionally, the handheld client can be run either in stand-alone mode, with a VPN connection where WiFi is available in nursing homes, or over the 3G cellular network with a WWAN connection.
